Never in the history of English football will a League campaign end in such drama, such tension and in such dramatic circumstances! Arsenal arrived at Anfield for the last game of the 1989-90 season needing a clear two goal victory to stop Liverpool achieving the double. Nobody really thought the Gunners could achieve such a result apart from perhaps the shrewd George Graham. Liverpool who never lost at home let alone by two goals conceded to an Alan Smith header in the first half and as the clock ticked into injury time and Steve Mcmahon reminded his nervous team mates that there was one minute remaining Arsenal launched one final onslaught into the Liverpool half and as time seemed to stand still Thomas skipped into the box and dinked the ball over Grobbelaar to achieve the unthinkable......the sight of grown men crying in the Kop and the Arsenal fans in utter ecstasy will live with football fans forever!
